United States, New York, Wednesday, 17th June. The statue of Liberty in New York marked the anniversary of its arrival to New Year Harbor, 130years ago.  Google reminded this to the world by showing Lady Liberty balancing on a ship on its home page on June 17th.

276167-alexfas01Lady Liberty is a 151 feet high statue made of copper sheets on a framework of steel supports. The statue is of a robed female figure representing the Roman Goddess – Libertas bearing a torch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) upon which the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776 is inscribed. The statue symbolizes the freedom of United States, and is a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving from abroad.

The Statue is also known as the “Liberty Enlightening the World.”

It is one of the ‘7 Wonders of the world’ and a great beacons for the tourists visiting USA from all over the world.

This immense statue was a gift from the France to the United States. It was transported in several pieces and assembled over the course of several months.

The history reveals that on June 17, 1885, crates arrived on the shores of New York holding 350 pieces of the more than 110-feet-tall statue. They were carried across the Atlantic Ocean on the French steamer Isere.

The statue is also an idol of democracy and has undergone several renovations to reform its interior and improve access for the disabled.

In the most recent renovation, about $30 million was spent replacing the stairs to the crown and making them less steep. There are now 393 steps, up from 354.

US feels pride and honored to have such a great gift making history since years!
